Enter one row for each grading category in your course, such as homework, quizzes, projects, and exams. Add your current grade for the category and its percentage weight. The weights should add up to 100%. The calculator multiplies each grade by its weight and combines the results to show your current course average.
How to Calculate a Weighted Grade
A weighted grade gives more important assignments a larger effect on your final average. Use this formula: weighted grade = sum of (category grade x category weight / 100). For example, a 90% homework grade worth 20% contributes 18 points to the course average. Repeat the calculation for every category, then add those contributions together.
This method works for most high school and college courses that use category percentages. It is different from a points-based grade, where the total points earned are divided by the total points possible.
